Ia começar a aventura! O sol brilhava. A brisa soprava.

Nina encheu o peito e gritou:

– Nāo coma esse caracol! Confie em mim! É venenoso para pássaros!

– Verdade? – perguntou o pássaro, confuso. – Mas parece tão delicioso!

– Nāo, nāo! – Nina exclamou.

JĂĄ no aviĂŁo…

‘An Adventure of Nina the Flea’

There was once a hairy flea called Nina who dreamed of changing her life, of travelling, and knowing the world. She did not want to live on her dog any more.

So one day she took her suitcase, her little coat, and went down the front paw of the dog.

Nina felt very excited while walking a long way from her old dog-home. In truth, Nina was not walking but, yes, jumping.

In these jumps, her suitcase opened. And all her clothes were scattered on the ground. Poor Nina! She didn’t know what to do.

In that moment, a snail appeared and, with care, started to gather the clothes and handed them, one by one, to Nina.

‘Thanks!’ said Nina.

‘A happiness to be able to help,’ responded the snail.

Already they were friends. Together, they resolved to explore the garden. They were starting the adventure!

The sun shone. The breeze blew.

Nina had never been so far from her dog and she liked that.

Suddenly, however, a hungry bird saw Nina and her snail friend. The bird’s eyes shone. Food!

Seeing the danger, the snail was wide-eyed in amazement. They searched, the fastest they could, for a place to hide. But how can a snail be fast?

That was why what happened: he ended up on the tip of the bird’s beak.

But he did not give up yet. Shouting for his life, the snail said: ‘Put me on the ground, you pile of feathers!’

Nina watched, nervously, without jumps or words. Finally, the snail was now her friend and she wanted to help him to get free from the bird’s beak.

In that moment, Nina had an idea!

‘Oh marvelous bird,’ she called, ‘listen here.’

The bird looked around. Who spoke? He looked down and saw, then, a jumping flea.

‘What do you want, tiny jumping one?’

Nina puffed up her chest and shouted: ‘Don’t eat that snail! Trust me! It is poisonous to birds.’

‘Really?’ asked the bird, confused. ‘But it looks so tasty!’

‘No, no,’ exclaimed Nina. ‘The snail is so poisonous your feathers will fall out!’

Nervous, the bird shrieked and quickly opened his beak, letting go of the snail.

The snail, scared, wiped the sweat off her brow. ‘That was close,’ she whispered.

The bird flew away and Nina jumped in the direction of her friend to embrace her.

‘Thanks, friend!’ said the snail. ‘You saved my life,’ she added, growing emotional.

Together, the friends left, jumping and slithering, towards the next adventure.
